This is what Gov. Cuomo (D-NY) said,
You’re seeing that play out in New York. … The Republican Party candidates are running against the SAFE Act — it was voted for by moderate Republicans who run the Senate! Their problem is not me and the Democrats; their problem is themselves. Who are they? Are they these extreme conservatives who are right-to-life, pro-assault-weapon, anti-gay? Is that who they are? Because if that’s who they are and they’re the extreme conservatives, they have no place in the state of New York, because that’s not who New Yorkers are.
And a bevy of conservative voices are now calling for the elected official to resign. Why?
In context, it appears to me he is suggesting that the extremists need not come to New York. You know, extremists like those who kill abortion doctors or who rush out to buy the latest weapon found to have killed 20 children. Or extremists like this pundit who said,
“That was his anti-gun legislation, which he had promised not to do, but then he had a little convenient massacre that went on in Newtown, Conn., and all of a sudden there was an opportunity for him,”
These same voices were defending Phil Robertson. Remember, Robertson has no responsibility for people, was not elected to state office, and is a commercial product. Notice as well the rhetoric coming from the conservatives on this – rhetoric that is not based on what the Governor said but on their on agenda.
