Sunday Thoughts – 9/19

We had a truly beautiful service this morning – a baptism, the Apostle’s Creed, a few other things. The Choir was wonderful. The Sermon timely and needful, at least to me. It almost felt like that first Spring morning after a harsh and dark winter…

The pastor’s sermon series is on the way marks of coming to faith. Granted, I started with faith, but it seems that some of his way marks are applying to me, especially during this transition… this still yet ongoing transition.  When they get posted, the audio versions, I’ll link to them here. See what you can come up with.

It has been a long few weeks, with lots of travel, but this next week seems pretty easy-going. I’ve got two papers to write for Seminary, and one of them seems to be pretty easy. You know, analyze Christian history thanks to Constantine. I’ll share with you as I get it going. Then, I have to analyze the congregation that I am currently in for aspects of church typology. That may not be that easy, considering that I am still very new.

The Gates of Hell looks an awfully lot like entering into Ohio via Point Pleasant, WV

Tonight, we have classes and the children have choir. I’ve got classes tomorrow and Wednesday night, along with the men’s discussion group (i.e, book club) on Thursday. I hope that this week, I can make the intercessory prayer group on Wednesday afternoon. We’ll see. Next week, of course, is Gathering Week, in which I will head to OHIO for the in-class portion of two of my four classes. (This weekend, and one weekend in October and November, I have class meetings for Church Administration, which by the way, is inspirational.)

But, never fear, I have several posts lined out this week. So, you know, we’ll be good. Busy, but good.

And I hope to work out a little on 1st Timothy 2.12,

διδάσκειν δὲ γυναικὶ οὐκ ἐπιτρέπω οὐδὲ αὐθεντεῖν ἀνδρός, ἀλλ᾽ εἶναι ἐν ἡσυχίᾳ.

I promise to make it as painful as possible. Because sometimes, I like the ‘no, in your face’ style of Tertullian.

This morning, this song was sung and was absolutely beautiful.

I hope that you have a great week!
