Sunday Thoughts – 7/4

Did you know that Dr. Gayle is back blogging?

Today, is the Fourth of July across the world, but here in the United States, it is a day to remember the founding of this country, although, to be correct, the vote was taken on July 2nd and the last signatures didn’t come until a few months later, with the final peace treaty coming years later.

I have no problem with one celebrating the birth of the nation, and myself thank God for the country of my birth. I do not, however, believe that this is the Christian nation that many purport it to be. Nor the ‘greatest’ nation. We have been a great nation and have done many good things, but so too we have our faults and absolute failures. There is room to grow and to correct our previous sins and along the way, lift others up. Even today, we are imperfect, in many ways. I do believe that we have one of the greatest systems of Government – if people would actually get involved, and first understand the difference between a Republic and a Democracy. The Republic is what must stand, not a fleeting flirtation with democracy. Let it be recognized, that we have shown the world that monarchs aren’t needed.

We are the children of every nation, and together…if only together…

If you may allow me a brief moment of secular politics –

I want to see several things change in this country. Maybe a repeal of the 17th amendment and a change to the 14th, maybe. Further, I want an end to the long campaign cycle, private financing of elections to be replaced with a shorter cycle and public financing. And I would prefer the revisionist history to stop, on both sides. Surely, as rational people we can examine history based on facts and not last year’s Texas school books.

And more prayer. Maybe if Christians spent more time on their knees, they would spend less time doing other things that they really shouldn’t.

Oh, and civil rights regardless.

And mandatory honest politicians.

I know that many of you have fireworks to pop, so I won’t keep you long, but during today’s activities, don’t forget that our citizenship is not on earth, not temporal, and that the Body of Christ should not be separated by anything.

God bless you, and God bless everyone:

Then the angel showed me a river with the water of life, clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb. It flowed down the center of the main street. On each side of the river grew a tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, with a fresh crop each month. The leaves were used for medicine to heal the nations. No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. (Revelation 22:1-3 NLT)
