Sunday Thoughts – 5/30

I wonder who Jim irritated?

Anyway, it has been a good weekend, working on a  few things, including expanding my previous work on the Psalms of Solomon. I will be publishing some of it this week, so, be warned. My personal writing, as some have said, has been rather slow in coming. I’ve been extremely busy with the official day job, with meetings, reports, etc… I haven’t had much time for the important things in life, you know, Facebook and Twitter, but maybe this week. We’ll See.

Read the 8th Psalm for our reading today, and found it familiar. I think that the best songs are those based in the Psalms. If you are looking for inspiration, why not turn to the Scriptures?

O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens.
You have taught children and infants to tell of your strength, silencing your enemies and all who oppose you.
When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers– the moon and the stars you set in place–
what are people that you should think about them, mere mortals that you should care for them?
Yet you made them only a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.
You gave them charge of everything you made, putting all things under their authority–
the flocks and the herds and all the wild animals,
the birds in the sky, the fish in the sea, and everything that swims the ocean currents.
O LORD, our Lord, your majestic name fills the earth!
(Psa 8:1-9 NLT)

Tomorrow is Memorial Day, and I am off on holiday. It’s a good thing too – I have a cover letter to write for St. Andrews, and to finish the application. Also, I will be announcing the winners of May giveaways tomorrow, to be followed by the announcement of June’s contests. They are open to all, international, etc…

Also, I need to give away some books, so if you know anyone who wants several old volumes of Adam Clarke’s commentary (I am missing a two of the set) and the first edition of the Interpreter’s Bible Commentary (complete set), let me know. I’ll take care of the shipping. No contest, just let me know if you want them.

  1. With Jim West it's always much easier counting those he HASN'T irritated. He takes after the classical composer who reputedly left parties by announcing “If I've failed to insult and outrage anyone here, I apologize!”
