Using the New King James Version of the bible, Thomas Nelson has assembled ‘universal favorites’ – essentially, they took out the ‘boring’ parts, such as geneologies, holiness codes, and much of the stuff in between, to present 250 favorite stories. It is an abridgment. What is the point of a bible like this? Simply, it is a bible centered on stories which would be normally used for devotionals – but without the added devotional material. Ideally, it is a gift for seasonal events, such as Christmas or Easter.

It is printed on heirloom, ripped, paper making the book look older than what it is. It is in verse format, just like you would expect in a bible.

I received this as a review copy from Thomas Nelson.

  1. Thomas Nelson has this bad habit of doing things to the bible that I do not like. First, they make that awful American patriots’ bible, and now this? Hmmmmm.

But, I must admit, Thomas Nelson has an excellent translation/paraphrase (for KJV onlyists) called The Voice. I have posted about it on my blog. Oh, and Tommy Nelson’s “Bible Man” series is a hit with the children’s ministry.

    1. Yeah, I wasn’t too awfully impressed with this. Since it was expense as a bible, why not get the entire thing. And yes, there is that American Patriot’s Bible….
