Suggesting that “God will never give us more than we can handle” promotes an idealized view of God. But in construing Paul’s words on avoiding idolatry in 1 Corinthians 10.13 as idealized theology we become guilty of idolatry ourselves. To idealize God is to idolize a false god. Idealized theology is idolatry. (p43)
I suspect that I will share more as I review the book.
What is his premise? Why, it’s what I’ve been feeling this fast few years. This book is immensely insightful, a bit harsh on a few of us, tough on the rest of you. It is about idealism and cynicism… about the Christian who has hit the proverbial wall in their faith….about me.
