Laura Marling – Sophia

I have recently found this artist and wow….

Oh I have been wandering where I have been pondering
Where I’ve been lately is no concern of yours
Who’s been touching my skin?
Who have I been letting?
Shy and tired -eyed am I today

I’m wounded by dust
All I have been wondering where I have been pondering
Where I’ve been lately is no concern of yours
Who’s been touching my skin
Who have I been letting
Shy and tired -eyed am I today

Sometimes I sit, sometimes I stare
Sometimes they look and sometimes I don’t care
Rarely I weep, sometimes I must
I’m wounded by dust

When the bell toll, when the bell gon’ chime
You better call for your woman up high
And when the bell tolls for your last day,
You’ll be getting down on your knees to pray
I’m a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day
Now I’m not a woman that’s gonna place blame but you said that it was coming on judgment day

Now Sophia
I’m wounded by dust

When the bell toll, when the bell gon’ chime
You better call for your woman up high
And when the bell tolls for your last day,
You’ll be getting down on your knees to pray
I’m a good woman and I never did say whatever it was that you did that day
Now I’m not a woman that’s gonna place blame but you said that it was coming on judgment day

Now Sophia
I’m wounded by dust
Now Sophia

  1. Marling is interesting because she does make a few theological points. Like if someone is saved, yet they aren’t accepted into the church because of something they did long ago or simply because they don’t see eye to eye on something that is iffy(not the big ones). Perhaps they are shunned because their good works don’t look like what the others expect, or the others don’t truly understand what brought them to the point they were at before accepting Christ. It’s about conforming to the image of the Son. Their accomplishments seem minute to some, while in the bigger scheme it can actually win people to Christ, not only saving their lives but also their souls Things that are said to be sin are obviously said to be that way because they can hurt us, physically and spiritually.
