Proposing a change to the Constitution to reflect the myth of the Christian nation is nothing new. It started as a reaction from the Yankees to the Confederacy’s constitution which explicit recognized God in it’s preamble,
We, the people of the Confederate States, each State acting in its sovereign and independent character, in order to form a permanent federal government, establish justice, insure domestic tranquillity, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity — invoking the favor and guidance of Almighty God — do ordain and establish this Constitution for the Confederate States of America.
In 1946 the Christian Amendment Association tried to insert into the Constitution the following words,
This nation devoutly recognizes the authority and law of Jesus Christ, Saviour and Ruler of nations, through whom are bestowed the blessings of Almighty God.
No Law written by men will make this a Christian nation; only the law written upon our hearts can transform, as Paul told Timothy, those around us.
