Give… Prayer a chance? #syria

“On the 7th of September, here , from 7 PM until midnight, we will gather together in prayer, in a spirit of penitence, to ask from God this great gift for the beloved Syrian nation and for all the situations of conflict and violence in the world.” (here
)

This is better than what either the US or the UK is doing…

I don’t think prayer will suddenly cause peace to break out; however, I think moments of meditation and shows of solidarity may work something better than threats of war.

  1. No, it won’t cause peace spontaneously to break out.

    But it’s still a better use of our time than looking for reasons, justifications, excuses, and legalities about going to war. If the world has to go to hell while we debate the Constitution’s requirements (rather than wisdom) and how “fun” it would be to see one-sided fights between F/A-22’s and Syrian MiG’s (probably less fun for the wives and children of Syrian fighter pilots than for American sofa-warriors), let Christ’s Church be seen as the people who say that there’s a better way.

    I seem to think that God would care more about not killing people than making sure that we deny health care to poor people.

    I am so fed up with American Evangelicalism. I say that as an American Evangelical.
