For many years Sr Margaret Scully, my 2nd Class teacher, had severe breathing difficulties. In 1986 she says she was miraculously and instantly healed by Jesus when she recieved the Eucharist at Communion. Since then she has been ministering healing prayers, and the gifts of the Spirit, fulltime at the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Sydney and sharing her experience that God the Father through Jesus with the power of the Holy Spirit does heal.
When you think about it, the greatest gift we have is Jesus whom the Father gave to us, out of love. Jesus lived his life as one of us, one like us “in all things except sin”. Empowered by the Spirit, as we are, he shared himself with all without exception. In fact, he gave the ultimate – himself. He gave his life for you and me. A couple of years ago I went to a Catholic worship service in the Crypt of St Mary’s Cathedral in Sydney. The service was lead by a woman, the sermon was given by a woman, and every song sung was from Hillsong. A priest was there to hear confessions at the end, but he didn’t talk or take any lead role in the service. The sole focus of the service was Jesus, people were recieving the Holy Spirit and just praising God.
These two examples are the kind of Catholic community I can relate to. I am not anti-Catholic. I am anti the sometimes false doctrine spread by the Vatican.
