Another Call for Papers soon to be announced – Hold the Date – 3rd thru 4th July, 2013

A few of us, and I’m not telling you who yet – unless they want to announce in on their blogs, are trying to organize a conference for next year to coincide with the 150th anniversary of The Battle of Gettysburg. I had batted around a mini-biblioblog conference around that event with someone and that someone has now expanded to someone else. Mark Noll has a book out, and while this may go along the same lines, I thought we could expand it to include not just theological constructions around the War, but Civil Wars in Classical Antiquity and how the one in 1860 (although hardly a civil war in the classic, or any, sense), and digital preservation projects. This covers the strata of biblio/theo/related blogs in the Library I think.

We are going to look for sponsors, of course. Thinking right now the Lutheran Seminary (historic, of course, among other reasons). Wouldn’t mind having a publisher or two or three there. Thought about a University sponsoring the event as well.

I’ll keep you informed.

  1. I’m tempted to organise a follow-up conference the following July to mark the 150th anniversary of the Second Battle of Kernstown, a major Confederate victory in Virginia which decimated the Union Army of the Kanawha and allowed the southern forces to advance back into Pennsylvania. I can also upstage your conference by offering a venue actually on the battlefield, only a few feet from the site of “the stone wall along the entrance lane to the Pritchard farm”. That venue would be our business unit.
