Dear Young Earth Creationists, Inerrantists and other -ists,

You and I may disagree, but when we do so, please refrain from the use of the word ‘anti-Christ.’ It makes you look rather foolish. You see, the Text which you claim as your ultimate authority, and in fact by using the word as you do you actually destroy your claim, not only invents the word but defines it:

Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son. (1Jo 2:22 NRS)

I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist. (2Jo 1:7 NLT)

You see, I have not denied that Christ has come in the flesh. So, when you use it because I disagree with your interpretation of Genesis, then you are using it wrong. It is annoying, and frankly, I am tired of being called ‘anti-Christ’ because I disagree with you. You are not Christ, nor right. I am not against God, Christ or Scripture. I am simply against dilettantes* misusing Scripture.

  1. How do you determine whether anyone is a dilettante? Are you checking educational credentials or simply rejecting out of hand those who reject your arguments. And what exactly are your credentials? Does simply taking “classes” qualify?

      1. The source material is scripture. However, everyone brings their interpretation to scripture. What methods of interpretation are acceptable . . . besides your own?

        1. A reasonable one. One made on realistic grounds and not on the feeble ‘scripture interprets scripture’ bit. Further, there has to be scholastic application of biblical studies. Lets not simply pretend that we rely upon ‘revelation.’

        2. But if scripture is “God-breathed” then proper interpretation must involve more than a scholastic search for the intent and meaning of its original writer. That must be done, but there also needs to be a recognition that additional understanding/interpretation, irrespective of that of the human authors, exists.
Fundamentalist often err in rejecting the reality that humans wrote these texts, sometimes, perhaps often, ignorant of divine involvement, the texts themselves going through processes of evolution.
“Liberals” often err in rejecting the reality of divine involvement and seek merely some human intention and meaning shaped by their original contexts.

          1. Jeff,

God does not breath into rocks or stone, does He that record or write down scripture?

Nope, God breathes into human beings.

It is impossible for scholars to discover the original intent of passages, since, you know, they weren’t there in the first thing. The best thing we can do is continue to translate and interpret, looking for documents from history that correspond to the original language and concepts of the biblical languages (greek, hebrew, and aramaic), and trust the Holy Spirit as God guides us in understanding God’s word.

  2. “I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.” Jeremiah 17:10

Joel, ultimately you will have to answer to the Lord for the motivation in your heart. Spewing your opinion all over the place is irrelevant, and what you’ve written recently doesn’t actually align with a loving humble servant of Jesus Christ. But please don’t reply to me, I won’t be back here. Seek the Lord’s will and not your own opinion, it will damage your eternity if you do not, and I think you know that.

    1. So you are a coward then? Further, you didn’t actually address the issue, but stuck your tongue out, said some childish things, and ran away. Umm…..
