Tertullian on Environmentalism

Do I think Tertullian was what we could consider Green by today’s standards? I don’t know – who cares? He was advocating using nature for what God had intended – and not to worship false gods in false ways. Neither did he want people to use it to worship God in a false way.

As we join Tertullian, he is dismissing strongly the use of ‘crowns’ on Christian heads – material, not spiritual – because they are of pagan invention. For him, just leave the flowers in the field where they belong. (Take him in context)

Paganism returns to the Holy Land

Like many other soldiers who took part in the Gaza operation, Omer, 20, occasionally took a few moments to pray, but he did not pray to the Lord of Israel. Omer considers himself pagan, and has sworn allegiance to three ancient gods. During combat, he says they appeared before him, giving him strength during the most arduous moments.

Omer is still in the army, and therefore refused to be interviewed for this story. Yet he did say he belongs to a religion whose goal is to revive worship of ancient gods.

Pagan cult mosaic found under cathedral

A Roman mosaic floor filled with scenes depicting pagan rites and oriental gods has emerged from the ground of a Catholic church in Italy, archaeologists announced.

The mosaic pavement, which measures 140 square feet and dates to the fourth century A.D., was unearthed at a depth of about 13 feet below the the ground’s surface during archaeological investigations in the crypt of the Cathedral of Reggio Emilia, in central-northern Italy.
