For once, I agree with Michele Bachmann – Natural Disasters and God

For Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, Hurricane Irene and last week’s earthquake in the eastern United States were a message from God that Washington needs to change its policies.

Even as Irene was beginning its raking course up the East Coast over the weekend, which killed 21 people and caused widespread flooding and power outages, Bachmann told senior citizens in Poinciana, Florida, on Saturday that the hurricane was an “act of God” that Washington should heed.

The Minnesota congresswoman, who has gained media prominence for her fiery attacks on Democratic President Barack Obama and against big government, recalled Washington and the east had already felt a 5.8 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday.

“Washington, D.C., you’d think by now they’d get the message. An earthquake, a hurricane. Are you listening? The American people have done everything they can, and now it’s time for an act of God and we’re getting it,” she said, drawing some laughs from her audience.

Agreed – maybe God is telling us to increase federal funding and to remember that Government is a God-blessed thing:

Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Eric Cantor: Protect Israel, Ditch the United States

As East Coasters brace for what some say will be a historic pummel by Hurricane Irene, at least one lawmaker is fuming over a requirement by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) that any potential emergency disaster aid be offset by spending cuts.

“It is sinful to require us to cut somewhere … in order to provide emergency disaster assistance for American citizens,” Rep. Cedric Richmond (D-La.) told The Huffington Post on Friday.

Do you know what happens when a sick and dying person refuses to let someone help them? They die. Do you know what happens when you refuse to help a sick and dying person? They die.

So, Cantor and others, instead of protecting the sanctity of compassion, will now seek to deny federal funds to what will be very sick and dying areas.

Sinful; disgusting; anti-Christ.

Tell you what – let’s cut the billions we give to Israel:

Cantor, of Virginia, said he wants to protect funding for Israel should that situation arise.

“Part of the dilemma is that Israel has been put in the overall foreign aid looping,” he said when asked about the increasing tendency of Republicans in recent years to vote against foreign operations appropriations. “I’m hoping we can see some kind of separation in terms of tax dollars going to Israel.”

Glenn Beck: Hurricane Irene is a Blessing

For years, Beck has been talking up the need to stockpile supplies due to what he sees as a coming “global disruption in food.” As such, he hopes this hurricane will teach people the need to be prepared and will work as a message from God that we’re not in control. (here)
