Harold Camping, Repented… forgiven

After numerous failed doomsday predictions, Family Radio founder Harold Camping announced this month that he has no plans to predict ever again the day of God’s Judgment. He also issued an apology to listeners, admitting that he was wrong.

“We have learned the very painful lesson that all of creation is in God’s hands and He will end time in His time, not ours!” a statement on Family Radio’s website reads. “We humbly recognize that God may not tell His people the date when Christ will return, any more than He tells anyone the date they will die physically.”

“But we now realize that those people who were calling our attention to the Bible’s statement that ‘of that day and hour knoweth no man’ (Matthew 24:36 & Mark 13:32), were right in their understanding of those verses and Family Radio was wrong. Whether God will ever give us any indication of the date of His return is hidden in God’s divine plan.”

“We tremble before God as we humbly ask Him for forgiveness for making that sinful statement. We are so thankful that God is so loving that He will forgive even this sin.” (here)

I know that it is going to be difficult for many, but Camping has repented. He admitted that he was wrong. He asked for forgiveness and said that he would not do it again.

I believe this to be sincere, but I am not to judge the hearts of the penitent. May he be sincere, and may be others forgive him as he has asked.

Harold Camping – Looking for a “Man-quake”

This is why the Church must teach eschatology – because people like Harold Camping will do their level best to take advantage of anyone who will listen.

In a message on his Web site, Camping declared that today, “at this point, looks like it will be the final end of everything.”

But if doomsday doesn’t come today, Camping might explain it away just as he did his May prediction mistake. In another post on his site, Camping wrote that May 21 was the “spiritual” end of the world.

As for the earthquakes he predicted, he says they came in the form of “man-quakes,” since mankind shook with fear from the Rapture and the book of Genesis describes man as made from dirt. (here)

Oh, and there was an earthquake in California today, with no reported injuries, proving that God does have a sense of humor. It was felt in Oakland, where his Family Radio company is based. How much you want to bet that when Harold felt it, he got just a little excited?

Let us be in prayer for him:

According to the Oakland Tribune, the Family Radio president was taken to the hospital Thursday night.

As of Friday, Camping’s neighbor told the Tribune that the 89-year-old preacher was doing OK. His speech, however, appears to be slurred.

“The only thing that’s affected is his speech,” the neighbor said.

An official update on Camping’s health is expected by Family Stations Inc. on Monday.

Let’s hold our breathe for that one… you can follow the live blog here as Camping speaks out.

Some of this statements, thus far:

  • “If we found that we make a mistake, immediately we will correct that, of course,” says Camping, but he says he was not incorrect his in math, just his interpretation about how May 21 would play out. He calls the day “an invisible Judgment.”
  • “The timing, the structures, the proofs, none of that has changed at all,”
  • “All I am is a humble teacher. I search the Bible. I search the Bible,” he says.
  • “It won’t be a five-month terrible difficulty…that we have learned,” said Camping. Instead, he says, the world will end quickly on Oct. 21 without any build up.
  • “On May 21 this last weekend…God again brought Judgment on the world…We didn’t feel any difference,” he says, “but we know that God brought Judgment” on the world. “The whole world is under Judgment.”
  • “We don’t always hit the nail on the head the first time,” Camping says. He seems to be repeating the same points over again. He believes Judgment Day happened May 21 and was “spiritual,” not physical.

Who cares anymore? Why won’t people realize that the man is a loon? A false prophet? A greedy, glutton of a man?

There is no rapture and there will be no rapture. Period.

Harold Camping Speaks – “I’ve Got to Live with It”

“Give me a day, no interviews at all today. Sorry. You know this is a big deal, big deal, and I’ve got to live with it and I’ve got to think it out. So no interview,” said Camping, who looked tired and dazed. (here)
