How is @PastorMark connected to the Church of Satan and Rand Paul?

Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan us...

Anton LaVey also stole his look from Ming the Merciless

Some accuse LaVey of paraphrasing the Nine Satanic Statements from Rand’s Atlas Shrugged without acknowledgement. LaVey later affirmed the connection with Rand’s ideas by stating that LaVeyan Satanism was “just Ayn Rand’s philosophy, with ceremony and ritual added”.

David Kirkpatrick posted an eye-opening read today.

And of course, my mind took a devilish turn. It seems greed and haste to make money more money produces plagiarism. We all know of Mark Driscoll’s plagiarism… well, we do but Tyndale House is still standing by their golden calf… and we know of Rand Paul’s plagiarism as well. And we know of others who use ghost writers.

Why is it that people are simply allowed to get away with this?

  1. Know More Than I Should says

Outside academia, nobody much cares about plagiarism. People steal each other’s ideas all the time. In a publish or perish environment, professors aren’t above submitting papers containing the fruits of uncredited student research. Few are ever caught. Much of Protestantism is little more than Catholicism without benefit of a Pope.
    .
Truth be told, most ideas aren’t original. Even the Bible seems to have borrowed or invented various concepts and events. The notion that monotheism originated with the ancient Hebrews is debatable. Last I heard, archaeologists were still trying to piece together enough evidence to support the existence of Salomon’s temple on a scale comparable to biblical descriptions.
    .
To purloin from the Book of Common Prayer with a twist: ashes to ashes and dust to dust, too bad old King David’s cadaver could stay with us. It sure would have made it much easier to prove David was something more than a figment of imagination or merely a petty warlord puffed by a rich literary tradition. Then, there’s that recent suggestion that domesticated camels weren’t really around when the events described in Genesis occurred.
    .
On the secular side of things, as the teenager actually responsible for inventing the quick-release socket wrench when John Kennedy was still alive discovered, patents and copyrights amount to little more legal games. He didn’t win his patent “wrench case” against then retail giant Sears until Ronald Reagan was in the White House! Meanwhile, oblivious to their origins at the time of purchase, I’ve still got a few Craftsman socket wrenches that I bought when Sears still legally held the uncredited patent on them.
