Dear Unsettled Christianity Readers,
As some of you know, I’ve been helping and serving with Rev. Drew McNeill and others at the Methodist Student Center (or Wesley Foundation) on Morehead State University’s campus in Morehead, Kentucky. Over the past few months, I’ve met and seen growth in some exceptional young people who are eager to serve and grow the ministry and outreach of the United Methodist Church.
Nicki Weber and Taylor Cash are both students at Morehead State who want to go on a trip to Ciudad Espana, Honduras this January to volunteer time helping with the medical needs of children in such a beautiful country. I’ve been to Honduras and have seen the need and experienced the joyous love of those who live there. But, in order to go, these two students need your help.
The desert fathers had a bunch of great sayings. One of their major themes was charity and generosity in giving. I’m reminded of the following teaching.
“One of the fathers said, ‘If anyone asks you for something, and you give it to him, even if you are forced to give it, let your heart go with the gift…. This means that if you are asked for anything, give it with a willing heart.’”
Won’t you consider helping my friends, Nicki and Taylor, to live out their baptismal vows to be in service to those in need by going to serve in Honduras? If you are so led to give, may your hearts go with you so that you can bless others with your resources. Also, please lift them up in your prayers as they’ll need your spiritual support as well.
Please give and share. Thank you!
