  1. Various versions of this conspiracy theory have been going around since at least the Cold War. Supposedly, communists were able to takeover Eastern Europe because they infiltrated the churches. My favorite from the same period was that communist churches painted their doors red. Of course, this particular rumor didn’t make Episcopalians very happy!
