Paul #Ryan is (no) Sarah Palin

Three different sources close to the Romney campaign indicate to NBC News that Mitt Romney will announce House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan as his vice-presidential running mate at tomorrow’s campaign event in Norfolk, VA. (here)

I do not like Ryan’s politics, about as much as I like Jack the Ripper’s plan for cleaning up the streets of London, but from everything I’ve read – he is consistent.

Plus, he is intelligent. This will be a different debate than 2008, that’s for sure.

Anyway, I suspect that Romney was forced into this decision since his poll numbers are in free fall where it counts. When Rush starts lobbing assaults against the ‘conservative’ candidate… well…

This is still a rather boring race. Ryan may shake it up, but not like Palin did. One thing he will do is to allow the President to continue the narrative that a Romney (now Romney-Ryan, I guess) Presidency will focus on getting rid of the social net.

  1. Ryan was a smart move. While I’m not a Romney supporter in the slightest, he made a wise move because the Tea Party likes him, because he proposed a budget they liked. So he’s trying to make the Tea Party believe he supports what they want. And they’ll fall for it hook, line and sinker.
But he’ll get the Tea Party vote. I wonder if Romney plays chess.

  2. I disagree about independents. Think about why they are independent. Most are fed up with double talk coming out of DC for the past 20 years at least and Ryan may just possibly counter this trend. As has been said, time will tell.

  3. “but from everything I’ve read – he is consistent.”

Well, apart from voting for deficit-ballooning things when Bush was President.

  4. To quote Joel
“You are simply drawing from sources that feed your own intentions.”

This applies to just about all flaming liberals and conservatives alike and I include myself at times. This is at the root of the problem this nation (USA) and most of the rest of the world faces.
