Geez, Mitt, even I know not to host a $50k a plate fundraiser in Israel on Tisha B’Av

From The Huffington Post:

Jonny Daniels, a leading Republican political strategist in Israel, told The Huffington Post that the campaign had been aware of the date of the holiday when it scheduled the fundraiser. The campaign thought it could hold the event in a way that would not offend, he said, but was taken by surprise at the ferocity of the public outcry over the timing.

“It wasn’t really a gaffe,” Daniels said. “They knew what the day was, but they were looking for the correct time and circumstance to do it. Instead it ended up seeming like a big dinner, but that’s not really what it is.”

“Don’t worry, they’re not going to not have a fundraiser,” he added. “They’ll find a way around it maybe by having a breaking of the fast meal combined with a Romney fundraiser.”

Let me ask you a question… if the DNC had a leading political strategist in Mexico of Kenya, what do you think the out cry would be?

When you elections are decided in another country, friends, you aren’t free.

  1. Next stop, Poland. Please, Mitt, no Polish jokes.
On a more serious side, Why Poland? I fully expect Mitt to say we should have built the anti-missile defense system in Poland. HUGE cost (of course, the U.S. pays for it all). Questionable effectiveness. Not very Russia friendly (how would we like the Russians to build a missile defense system in Cuba). Been there, done that (OK, it was offensive, not defensive). But the difference between offensive and defensive missile “sets” is not very great. Just change the warhead and guidance system. Russia isn’t stupid. My point – cut everything at home, education, health care, social security, road and infrastructure building…..but spend billions on another weapon system – based in Poland? I hope Mitt doesn’t take this approach, but I do not see what other reason he would go to Poland, unless he likes Polish sausage. Can’t be the Polish beer and vodka.

    • Forgot to mention, Star Wars missile defense system in space was cut too. Didn’t make us take a missile in Omaha (STRATCOM – been there, done that).
