Joel L. Watts holds a Masters of Arts from United Theological Seminary with a focus in literary and rhetorical criticism of the New Testament. His interests include exploring the role of mimesis in human civilization, specifically in the study of religion and media, as well as science fiction and the way in which it has allowed mythology to be explored in light of scientific discoveries of the past century. He is the author of Mimetic Criticism of the Gospel of Mark: Introduction and Commentary (Wipf and Stock, 2013) and a co-editor and contributor to From Fear to Faith: Stories of Hitting Spiritual Walls (Energion, 2013).

  1. This is very funny, and so true at the same time. We have some friends who decided to go to a church from my old denomination. They told me they couldn’t understand why they were so happy and saying I love you and singing to someone she didn’t know. So I recommended the Methodist church down the road, and they feel more comfortable there. They go to the early service that last 15 minutes. Does that exist in a Methodist church? a 15 minute service? Why bother going? What can one possibly learn in 15 minutes? They also say it’s the Q-tip service! The church I planted had a Q-tip service too, and it also was early but it was an hour, not 15 minutes.
