Answering your Emails: Is Jim West really gruff?

I received this the other day, thought I might share:

Joel,

I love your blog. It is everything that a blog should be. Funny, slightly political, a little controversial, and well-written. I have a question. Is Jim West really like he is on the blog? I mean, he comes off pretty gruff, but I’ve heard that he is not that way in real life.

Thanks,

Huldrych Zwingli

Harry,

First, thanks for your email. It’s always nice to get emails, even from the unknown.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jim several times, in real life, and no, he is really just a cuddly teddy bear full of love and comfort. As a matter of fact, when you stand around Jim, it’s almost as if you experience a glow. He has a certain aura which, if you care close enough, swells your spirit. Also, it comes in handy when you are trying to find Jim in a crowd. For example, I was trying to find him on the SBL Book exhibit floor. I stood on a chair and could actually see the halo-like glow emitting from Jim.

So, there you go.

  3. Yeah, he has to stay inside at night for fear of misguiding air traffic, but Jim comes in real handy when Rudolph’s not around.
