West Virginia #facepalm – Read your bible, new state motto

I thought that the Gazette had stopped publishing erroneously stated opinions, but alas, they didn’t. Here are a few from today:

  • To those who think that good people go to heaven and bad people go to hell, I’d like to know how good is good? If that be the case, then Jesus Christ didn’t need to come to pay the ultimate price. Please read the Bible and you will learn God’s plan of salvation.
  • I hope everyone read the June 21 letter to the editor by Nancy Bradley from Hurricane. It was wonderful. It was about America no longer being a Christian nation. They are trying to make our churches Islam Christian churches and trying to take down crosses.
  • I don’t agree with anyone calling others a fool. The Bible clearly speaks against it. West Virginia voted Obama down once, and they are certain to do it again. Don’t waste your vote for this loser.
  • Times are close. The Lord will come for his people. When those hatemongers come against Israel, it’s over. But in the end, the hatemongers will vanish from this earth. Read your Bible.

First, I don’t know what the first commentator was trying to get at? Umm…. have they read Rob Bell‘s book?

I’ve recently heard that fear expressed somewhere else. Oh, that’s right… that’s what Jack Van Impe has been accusing others of doing:

Earlier this month, Van Impe named California megachurch founders Rick Warren and Robert H. Schuller as proponents of “Chrislam,” which he defined as “a uniting of Christianity with Islam.” TBN pulled the episode before a repeat broadcast could air.

I’ve had my own issues with Rick Warren equating Jesus and Isa and the such, actually. I don’t think it is as Van Impe says, but I do think that people tend to find it comfortable to mix the two.

Again, this is a sign of religious illiteracy across the country. Oh that we have real theologians today…

I love the third comment. Don’t call anyone a fool, but the president is a loser. And of course, the bible also says…

The final one is the usual. Israel, Israel, Israel followed by ‘read your bible.’ If you would actually read your bible, you would note just how wrong some of these comments are. Maybe I should contact the Gazette and ask if I could being their religious guy? (Official title, Joel W., Religious Guy)

  1. “but I do think that people tend to find
it comfortable to mix the two”.

That is a fairly sweeping statement. I think that most Christians would not be comfortable mixing their faith with Islam, but not actually have a real problem with Muslims.
