Are There Sundays We Should Not Go To Church?

Folding the U.S. flag

I can name 2.

The Sunday before Memorial day.

The Sunday before or on the 4th of July.

Why? The church has become so enculturated that it is encouraging its members to worship the American flag. That was my experience today. We can celebrate those who “died for” our country, but not in Christ as saints (All Saints Day)?

Are there any others I am leaving out?

  1. I actually oppose having the flag in the sanctuary on any given Sunday and preaching the holiday in the sermon. I think it’s acceptable to do a very quick announcement before worship begins…something along the line of “Today we remember our mothers/fathers/troops/etc.” Leave it at that.
