This has been coming for a long time actually, with Glenn Beck issuing the talking points a little while ago and the Confessing Church picking up the charge. Christian points us to what is now a direct attack on the UMC by a Tea Party group.
He charges the UMC of transcending national (man-made) boundaries to create a sense of justice by supporting the DREAM act which helps to bring about real immigration reform (unlike the Native Americans who really never got much of a say in the matter). Further, he is angry that the UMC would attempt to correct the lies spouted by groups such as the Tea Party Nation during the Obamacare Scare. He goes on,
Reading the Methodist social justice manifesto is like reading a socialist wish list. They want amnesty, they want “economic justice”, they opposed “global climate change” (earth to the Methodists, man isn’t doing it), fighting global poverty (here is another hint, most poverty is caused by a lack of freedom and lack of a free enterprise system). Not shockingly, the Methodists side with the Islamists against Israel, and of course oppose America in Iraq.
Yeah… economic justice. Shame that, eh? I mean, women and minorities shouldn’t be paid the same as a white male if they do the same work. As a matter of fact, I’m not sure they should be paid at all. I mean, who allowed a woman to go to work anyway? And besides, according to Glenn Beckites, Slavery was a good thing! Not really about racism anyway.
Not real sure his comment about ‘opposing global climate change’ but I will say that the earth is the Lord’s and we are the caretakers. While there is science one way or the other on Climate Change, my only need is to follow Scripture and be the caretaker that I’m supposed to be.
Yeah, Global poverty. Um… Say, where is global poverty the worse? South American and Africa… Okay, work with me here. Unlike the British Colonies (in North America) which were started for various reasons such as religion freedom and to provide for an economic base, not by enslaving the local population but by using mercantilism, South America and Africa were colonized for widely different reasons. The participating nations used slavery and genocide there in their colonization methods. Big, big difference.
Regarding the “Islamist” and Israel, it is actually Palestinians and not Islamic terrorists which Israel is putting into ghetto’s. Further, some of the Palestinians are Christians. And, since when did Justice stop at an ethnic boundary? God punished Israel worse than the other nations and even demanded of them justice, siding with other nations when Israel was in the wrong. And yet we have to build our foreign policy, and our justice policy, around some mythical notion of ‘God’s political state’?
And yes, EVERYONE SHOULD OPPOSE AMERICA IN IRAQ.
I’ve noticed one thing about all of this – he is lacking in his Scriptural foundation. Where is his scriptural support for those things which he says that the UMC is wrong for? Instead, he uses words which he doesn’t understand, like Socialism, Marxism and Communism.
Oh, and about Judson? Seems that he is running his Tea Party as a for-profit enterprise with the money aiding his family, has no clue about Islam, and is at least honest about what it means to return to the system created by the Founding Fathers.

I am so tired of the Tea Party people and their self righteous attitude towards anyone who is not part of their movement. As a Methodist member myself, I was glad to read your response to Judson Phillips’ comments. I found a thread to your blog in Huffingtonpost. Thanks.
