Volunteer in the Gulf Oil Spill

From here:

Each of the four Gulf of Mexico states affected by the BP spill have established their own web sites for volunteer coordination within their states. We are working with each of the states to provide email addresses of our volunteers. Everyone who registered at OilSpillVolunteers.com must register at the state sites. The new state registration forms provide much more detail on volunteer qualifications and interests, so that the full OSV database is not directly transferable.

If you live outside the region, be aware that the number of local volunteers seems to greatly outnumber the opportunities for volunteers now. You should identify a specific volunteer role before traveling to the Coast.

My family and I are going to try and do something later in June or July, for a weekend.

  1. Here's a super easy way to help:

Donate $10 by texting “isupport wetlands” to 20222. Reply “yes” to the confirming txt msg. ALL the money will buy to replace marsh grass plants and other restoration projects by the America's WETLAND Conservation Corps.

I'm very familiar with this organization and completely vouch for them using the money to actually help the oil spill.

  2. Excellent, thanks Robert. Anything you want to post on how people can help, places to go, etc… that would be great. We are hoping to come down and help, but if nothing else, we can give money

  3. Interesting post. I have stumbled this for my friends. Hope others find it as interesting as I did.

  4. If the volunteers are as plentiful as you say then we should not see any more oil soaked birds wandering in distress on the beach followed by hapless newsmen calling on their cell phones to find someone to come pick the bird up to clean it up! For God's sake, wrap the animal up if necessary and take it to the nearest animal rescue site which I assume should be plentiful by now! but if I see that behavior again then you need more help.

  5. Cindy, i am not saying anything actually, I am just relying a message.
