Don Miller Pities Pat Robertson; Rush Limbaugh weighs in

Regardless, Robertson’s comments further divide people of faith from, well, people of faith. I don’t want to debate the theological ramifications of Robertson’s comments, I only want to point out some perspectives that cause me to no longer be angry with him, and rather, to pity him. I consider this a more mature perspective than I would have had even a few years ago. Here are a few perspectives that, hopefully, will keep you from throwing a stapler through a wall:

A Response to Pat Robertson’s Comments about Haiti.

And then there is Rush:

This will play right into Obama’s hands. Humanitarian, compassionate. They’ll use this to, to burnish their, shall we say, credibility with the black community, the both light-skinned and dark-skinned black community in, in this country. It’s made-to-order for him. That’s why he couldn’t wait to get out there, could not wait to get out there.

Joel Landon Watts is a Masters of Theological Studies student with a focus in Mimetic Criticism of the Gospel of Mark. His interests include exploring the role of mimesis in human civilization, specifically in the study of religion and media, as well as science fiction and the way in which it has allowed mythology to be explored in light of scientific ideals of the past century. Currently, he is a TA for Old Testament at United Theological Seminary under Dr. Vivian Johnson, Associate Professor of Old Testament. His first book, Rhetorical Strategies of the Evangelist: Mimetic Criticism of the Gospel of Mark, is expected to be published by Wipf and Stock early next year. He is currently co-editing a book on moving from Fear to Faith (Energion, 2013).

  1. Stupid comment by Limbaugh. I wish we didn’t feel the need to politicize everything in this country.

  4. Am I allowed to swear in your comments? The first thing I had to say about Limbaugh wouldn’t have passed my own comments filter … let’s leave it at that …

      Disgusting, ain’t it?

      • That’s exactly the kind of malarkey that finally convinced me I should quit listening to him, even if it opens up the “you just don’t listen” rebuttal when I criticize the … uhhh … jerk.

I get so furious when I hear him take this racist and political tack in the face of human suffering and the fact that Pres. Obama is doing the right thing.

  6. Good grief. What kind of massive lead staplers does Don Miller keep on his desk?
