Cop charged over 'exorcism' attempt

A committal court will hear details later this month of the case against a South Australian police officer charged over attempts to perform an exorcism on a teenager at a church youth camp.

Roger Kenneth Hugh Sketchley appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with false imprisonment and aggravated assault in SA’s Barossa Valley in April this year.

The 28-year-old was off duty at the time and was allegedly trying, with two other adults, to perform the exorcism on a 15-year-old boy at a camp run by the Lutheran church.

Two other adults were also charged over the incident but no details have been released about their identity. The trio allegedly restrained the 15-year-old after he complained of stomach pains in an incident which allegedly went on for about 12 hours.

When I have stomach pains I am fairly sure it is nothing to do with demons …

  1. Exorcism is a dangerous area to get involved in. But at the same time, ignoring demons is also a dangerous thing. And if someone does not believe demons do not exist, go read the Bible.
It seems to me that Christ and at least some of the early disciples were involved in exorcism. But I dont recall it being anything more than commanding (once from all appearances) the demon come out. I think people believe removal of demons requires some sort of effort. I dont see that in the Bible. I only see faith in Christ and the power of God working.
