Joel Landon Watts is a Masters of Theological Studies student with a focus in Mimetic Criticism of the Gospel of Mark. His interests include exploring the role of mimesis in human civilization, specifically in the study of religion and media, as well as science fiction and the way in which it has allowed mythology to be explored in light of scientific ideals of the past century. Currently, he is a TA for Old Testament at United Theological Seminary under Dr. Vivian Johnson, Associate Professor of Old Testament. His first book, Rhetorical Strategies of the Evangelist: Mimetic Criticism of the Gospel of Mark, is expected to be published by Wipf and Stock early next year. He is currently co-editing a book on moving from Fear to Faith (Energion, 2013).

  1. I like that, but I like the one you have too :D

  3. Personally, I prefer dark text on a light background. I find it more aesthetically pleasing. Ultimately up to you. I certainly like the layout of the new one though.

  5. I have another one that I might post up tomorrow. Might fit that description.

I like this one too, Bitsy – just not sure how well people can read the different shades.

  6. Thanks, Bitsy.

  7. I like the one you currently are using. It reminds me of an old book with browned pages. Seems fitting. This new one looks a little too modern or mechanical in my opinion.

  9. I like it but the font is a little clunky if it really looks like that.
I’m going to be writing a post on how important our blogs look since most are reading through a feed reader anyway.

  11. I like the “other” one a lot better.
I don’t like brown, although many do, and I think the brown book-like themes are getting a little old for me, but then again I don’t like brown. The Web isn’t a book. No offense to Leigh Anne who may have better taste than me.

  13. I would hope she has better taste – she did marry me!

By other one, Do you mean the provided link? I’ve thought about going that way – not sure yet. I like the three column look.

  14. Yeah the provided link at 2:23.
I didn’t know that was the woman you married. I’m glad I was nice. !
Does she ever correct your spelling?

  16. You have no idea… my grammar as well… punctuation … even makes me pick up my socks!

  17. I have switched my theme more times than I change clothes in a week, but ultimately come back to the one I have now. I like two columns, right-side extras, and light backgrounds for dark fonts. Just my opinion!

  19. Jason, I believe that we all have our set styles. For me, I like the three column look, but I want one that is less, um, novel, maybe. With a self-hosted account, there is so much you can do with the themes – so many more free ones that WP.com gives. Plus, you can edit your theme. Which is most likely why I have such a difficult time settling on one. I’m still looking, thinking.

What do you think of this theme? I got it here, along with others: http://the-cloisters.net/

  20. Honesty, I don’t like it. It’s too busy for me. When it comes to reading online, I need crisp contrast between background and font, preferably not in unusual color combos. The more streamlined the better, for me anyway. Your current theme is very easy for reading, for what it’s worth!

  22. So, you like this theme okay?

  23. Yes, I like this one pretty well. The one you have pictured at the top is nice, too.
