I have decided to update this post and send it through a few engines, such as AlphaInventions and Reedit.
As I was watching the local news last night, they featured a story about a father-son duo that teamed up to help a ‘bum.’ They set up a website with a web cam that allows viewers to watch the ‘bum’ as he panhandles. Now, through the website, you can donate money for the things that he needs – such as a GQ magazine, a Blackberry Gold, and a karate lesson:
This is Tim. He’s a real Bum. He lives at Highway 6 and I-10 in Houston, Texas. The more visitors to this site, the more money he makes. Tim receives 100% of the money generated from his WISH LIST to the right. Click on About Tim to see videos of Tim, and visit the Live Cam to see if we are currently broadcasting live from his corner. Find pictures of the operation here. Thanks for stopping by and please spread the word so we can help get Tim off the street. Also, feel free to stop by tomorrow, Tim starts work at 8am sharp! NEWLY ADDED: Donate ANY amount below! Also, Contact us if you have alternative donation offers or a job offer for Tim.
And they offer a disclaimer:
Disclaimer: PimpThisBum.com makes ZERO profit from donations to this website. Funds, will be placed in a trust fund for Tim. Our goal is to give him the boost he needs to get off the street. If you become aware of any job opportunities or if you would like to donate any product or service in this effort, we will gladly display your donation and company logo on this site. Tim appreciates your support. For more information, please contact us.
I have donated and I will ask others to as well, if they can, and if they feel led to. A large group of people giving a small amount will help a great deal.

Polycarp,
I just want you to know that this site is ‘edgy’ for the specific purpose for getting the attention of the media. We use a title and a tactic that will insult their sensitivity and MAKES them look to see this site. Then, once they get there they realize it is a great cause and Tim is a wonderful man that just needs a little hope like the rest of us. The news is always bad because the ‘bad’ makes the news. We designed this campaign as a “sheep in wolves clothing” in order to get the word out.
If you would like any more information about Tim for yourself or your audience, send an email to admin@ascendgence.com and I’d be glad to give you my personal phone number.
God Bless You!

Sean, I understand that. I guess I have been living then these hills too long. I reckon that I see nothing wrong doing what you can – even to the point of shock – to help people. You are right, it is edgy and I guess that is why stays with you.
I hope that my readers contribute something. Matter of fact, I’ll do it now.
Polycarp,
Your donation is greatly appreciated! Tim is absolutely overwhelmed by this all. If you or your readers get a chance, Tim will be on Fox & Friends morning show, and the story will be shown on Rachael Ray. It’s all thanks to people just like you who spread the word.
Thank you,
Sean Dolan
I just saw you on Fox & Friends. This is an interesting concept. However, before I elect to donate, I would like to know more about Tim and his circumstances. I realize he said that he made a lot of bad choices, but I would like to know things like where he grew up, what kind of family circumstances (where is his family), education, how did he end up on the street, how many times since he ended up on the street has he attempted to get help to get off the street. Being on the street for 5 years is a long time and having been there that long, I’m not all that confident that he is committed to getting off the street. He seems fairly intelligent, able-bodied and healthy. I’d like to know more about how he got there and what he has done in the last 5 years to help himself before I donate.

Lorraine,
I cannot help you with that information. I believe that you should contact the website owners. First, however, if you are donating out of religious concerns, remember that Christ never asked to see a five year history when He feed the poor. Surely, out of 5000 people, more than a few could have fed themselves.
Lorraine: He has try to hold jobs, but eventually his alcoholism stoped got him discharged. We now have a sponser who will out him through an intensive 5 week recovery program. We are now trying to make sure he has a roof and some counseling for 6 moths post recovery. We don’t know if he will make it or not, but he is committed and we would rather act and fail that do nothing. His only family is a brother he hasn’t seen for some 7+ years. He spent his high school years in Oklahoma. His mother and grandmother were killed in California. Some seven years ago he worked as an operations manager at a marketing company. After the deaths of his mother and grandmother he fell into a deep depression, followed by drug addition. He bottomed out about four and a half years ago finding himself on the street. He shook the drug habit but picked up an alcohol habit. He tryed to get his life together through a local ministry, but couldn’t lick the alcoholism. This time he will go to a recovery center in Seattle to detox and go through intensive therapy. We hope to get the ministry involved again once he has licked the alcohol. He is very repentatant we think he is a good candidte for a come back.

Kevin,
Thank you for that update. I hope that if I am ever in trouble, people will not ask me for resume.
For all that are reading this, I made a slight donation.
My sister told me once when she lived in and worked in New York, most of them on the street do not want to do better, they like it, I am all for helping someone, but they have to help themselves first,or want to. and most of the money you donate go to pay for their addiction, You cannot force someone to change.. My brother saw someone on the side of the road, begging for food, said he would work for food,so he stopped by and told him, i have a job for you, but the guy did not want a job…

and shame on you Polycarp, you know better than to brag and tell what good deeds you are doing,,, that is between you and God….

Deb, I am sorry that you thought this was bragging. What I meant was that it is okay to give to this person, and that we should encourage others to do so. I am sorry, again, if you thought that this was bragging. I didn’t want people thinking that I was encouraging giving without having done so first. Again, Deb, I regret that it looked like bragging.

Good for you Poly. Most people would not take this seriously if you had not put actions to your words. Most times, I would look at it as Deb did, you not letting the left hand know what the right hand is doing. But like a pastor speaking about giving and then he publically puts his offering in the bag in front of everyone to show his actions will speak louder than his words, so have yours. God bless you.
Off the subject a bit, a praise report. My son in the Air Force at basic training developed two lobe pneumonia. He was very sick, we prayed, after one week he was released. He went to a military rehab unit to be watched. He prayed again and called me to pray so he could return to his unit in time to graduate. He called me today, God answered his prayer. He will have to pass the Physical Test and so we are believing that God has completely healed him and restored his strength in order to pass it and in order to graduate on the 8th of March. Hallelujah, God has proven Himself faithful.

Praise God,He does still heal,, sorry Polycarp, did not mean to offend you,, I took it the wrong way. forgive me… Pray for me, I am sick, and cannot get over this cold… I surely don’t want it to turn into pneumonia.

Deb,
No offense was taken. I was afraid that I had offended you, which is not something that I want to do. I can fully appreciate your view point, and to be honest, I might would have had the same one as well. We will pray for you, as it seems to be going around.
That is a wonderful praise report Tammy. Indeed, God does still heal.

I don’t remember how I came across the pimpthisbum website, it was only a couple days ago and I watched a couple of Tim’s videos and I dropped 5 bucks into the account. I’m not bragging, I just thought I spend more on a quick stop at the corner store on a red bull and a piece of beef jerky, I also thought if everyone just gave a dollar, this guy could get enough help to actually make a go of it, a job, a place to sleep and bathe and eat without dirt, it’s a start. I’ve been there with 2 little children, living in an abondoned shack, no water, no electric, I wasn’t at fault, my ex-husband became a drunken physically abusive animal, 17 years, I had to get out, I had to hide, he tried to kill us time and again, I still suffer head and neck injury, knocked out my teeth, but we survived and got back on our feet with help from strangers and food from a church pantry, I found my way back within a year. My children are grown now, they don’t really remember the hard times, I walked to work, 15 miles, I remember every one of those steps. Those are some lonely cold steps, alone and scared. I never knew if someone was going to take my children away from me, they were all I had, I would have died without them. I deserved a second chance, I think Tim does also.

Thank you for your testimony, Langt.
Kevin,
I happened to accidently catch a local Seattle news story on Tim’s arrival for treatment at Sunray last night. It caught my attention and struck a chord in my heart. You and I are about the same age. I have one wonderfully successful son who is 19 years old and attending WSU, but life has not gone so well for my oldest son and namesake, who is 31. My son George got involved with alcohol and drugs as a young teen and his problem escalated over the years. He has spent the greatest part of his adult life as an alcoholic and living on the streets. He has rarely had a job, rarely had a roof over his head, and rarely had the opportunity to spend much time with his beautiful daughter who is 11 years old. The ravages of alcohol never seem to stop in his life. Only about two months ago he was struck by a car while crossing the street. His blood alcohol content was 3.0. He had a compound fracture of his leg and broke his shoulder and cheekbone. He is lucky he did not lose his leg. He spent months in the hospital and in a transitional living center for physical therapy. Within 24 hours of his release he was drinking again. His mother and I divorced a couple years back. I feel much of the reason for the destruction of our marriage was due to living with problems of our son.
So, as I said, it caught my attention for some very personal reasons when I saw the story on Tim. I think what is happening with Tim is amazing. Its the type of opportunities that I have always hoped could somehow find their way to my son. As chance would have it, my profession is television production. I think this project of yours is amazing and I’d love to see it continued to help even more homeless people. I’m wondering if you might have any interest in discussing the possibility of a television series based on your concept. If so, I would love to talk to you directly. Please visit our company website and give ma a call at work. I would really like to see this concept grow and help more and more homeless people like Tim and my son.
Thank you,
George Butts
