As a side note, Brazil, a heavily Catholic country, is a nation on the verge of becoming an economic powerhouse with the new discovery of oil. What power will it weld over the U.S. in ten years when oil production is up and running? What about Europe?

We have used our power to ‘urge’ other governments into doing things. Can you imagine these liberal countries doing the same thing to us on the issue of gay rights? Look, being gay is a sin; it is an abomination. A government should not move to prevent these things, but it should move to prevent people from standing up for correct values.

Gay rights is winning over religious freedoms. Be warned.

Joel Landon Watts is a Masters of Theological Studies student with a focus in Mimetic Criticism of the Gospel of Mark. His interests include exploring the role of mimesis in human civilization, specifically in the study of religion and media, as well as science fiction and the way in which it has allowed mythology to be explored in light of scientific ideals of the past century. Currently, he is a TA for Old Testament at United Theological Seminary under Dr. Vivian Johnson, Associate Professor of Old Testament. His first book, Rhetorical Strategies of the Evangelist: Mimetic Criticism of the Gospel of Mark, is expected to be published by Wipf and Stock early next year. He is currently co-editing a book on moving from Fear to Faith (Energion, 2013).

  1. While the third world countries are struggling with issues such as food shortage, unemployment, illiteracy, population control, low per capita income, inflation, communal and casteist struggles, poverty, natural calamities, insufficient resources, utilities and infrastructure, health and hygiene etc, the United States and many countries in Europe are fighting and arguing about something that most people in the world are not even able to think about …

  2. Grace, You are absolutely right, however, the issue of poverty does not negate the responsibility of preaching morality.
